Innovators: Ages 10-14

Innovators: Python and robotics.

Join us for an amazing week where we'll delve into both Python, the most popular coding language around and robotics. We'll learn the basics of Python and will use it to program robots of our own design.
Difficulty Level
Suitable for all students regardless of experience.
Date
8 April to 12 April
From 10AM to 4PM early drop-off from 9AM
Price £535.00 £570.00

Some of the projects we'll build will include a multiplayer game with Python, a radio-controlled vehicle and a walkie talkie. We'll even make and program a smart watch! We'll culiminate the week by making a more complex platformer game using Microsoft Make:Code. This week presents the opportunity to have fun whilst developing a foundation in Python.

Learning outcomes

Python foundations

We'll learn to create complex images using Python and create quizzes

Microcontrollers

Use Python to control inputs and outputs on the Micro:bit

Introductory robotics

Add input and output devices to the Micro:bit (sensors, motors)

Create interactive, multiplayer games

Use the micro:bit as a game controller; develop complex games using Python. Understand loops, conditionals, functions

Information for parents

All of the programming environments are browser-based; hence no downloads are necessary. BlueShift will provide all robotics equipment.

Camp structure

This is a sample schedule for a typical day at camp. In between each lesson there will be a 15-minute snack break, or a 1-hour lunch and play break.
10.00 - 10.40
Lesson 1
First off we'll get to know our teacher and classmates through some great mini games. Once we're all friends, we'll be introduced to our activity for the day. Let's jump in to coding!
10.40 - 11.20
Lesson 2
We'll have a short stretch and will begin our second activity. We might continue making our game or animation, especially, if we've spent some time planning our work with drawings and storyboards.
11.35 - 12.15
Lesson 3
Now that we've had a healthy snack, we're ready to get right back into our third activity. We'll carry on flexing our creative muscles by designing, coding and building our projects.
13.15 - 14.05
Lesson 4
Let's refocus after lunch and playtime by diving into building robots!
14.30 - 15.10
Lesson 5
It's time to start our late afternoon activity. Usually we'll do something creative like digital art, practicing our digital skills by using the mouse to create art and animations.
15.15 - 16.00
Lesson 6
Our last lesson of the day is an opportunity to finish up our work, recap on what we've learned today and tidy up ready for home time!

I liked making my robot move!

Campers should not be brought to camp if they are displaying signs of illness. In the case of a camper who has become ill during camp hours, parents will be notified immediately to pick their child up. If a child misses a day or multiple days of camp because of an illness, credit towards another camp can be arranged for when they're feeling better.

Refund policy

You can cancel your camp booking up to 14 days prior to the start date. If you want to cancel your camp booking less than 14 days before, you can receive 50% refund or full credit towards future courses when cancelling between 13-7 days before, or full credit when cancelling less than 7 days before. If we are unable to run our camps, you will receive credit or a full refund. If you cancel for any reason you may be liable to pay the difference if our prices increase.
